Fun Facts for Presidents’ Day from Little Tikes!

February is a month full of celebrations and today we are encouraging you to use the days leading up to Presidents Day (Monday, February 18th) to educate children about the history of the Presidents of the United States, in particular George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.  We here at Little Tikes encourage you to print off the fun facts below and share them with the children in your care. 

Below are some fun facts to share with your children about George Washington: 

  • George Washington was the 1st President of the United States
  • Years George Washington was President: 1789-1797
  • Birthday: February 22, 1732
  • George Washington was 57 when he started his term in office
  • If George Washington was alive today he would be 271 years old
  • His occupation before he was President included a Planter, Farmer and Soldier
  • Height: 6 feet, 2 inches
  • When he was alive he would have travelled by horse and carriage and he would have communicated with friends by letter.
  • When George Washington’s term began the U.S. population was 3,929,214
  • There were 16 stars on the U.S. flag when George Washington left office

Below are some fun facts to share with your children about Abraham Lincoln:

  • Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States
  • Years Abraham Lincoln was President: 1861-1865
  • Birthday: February 12, 1809
  • Abraham Lincoln was 52 when he started his term in office
  • If Abraham Lincoln was alive today he would be 194 years old
  • His occupation before he was President included a Store Clerk, rail-splitter, lawyer
  • Height: 6 feet, 4 inches – he is the tallest president
  • When he was alive he would have travelled by horse and carriage or train and he would have communicated with friends by letter or telegram.
  • When Abraham Lincoln’s term began the U.S. population was 31,443,321
  • There were 36 stars on the U.S. flag when Abraham Lincoln left office

Below are some fun facts to share with your children about our current President George W. Bush:

  • George W. Bush is the 43rd President of the United States
  • Years George W Bush was President: 2001 – Present
  • Birthday: July 6, 1946
  • George Bush was 55 when he started his term in office.
  • George W Bush is 61 years old
  • His occupation before he was President included being a businessman and owner of a major league baseball team
  • Height: 5 feet, 11 inches
  • He travels by helicopter, airplane and car and he communicates with friends by letter, phone and email.
  • When George Washington’s term began the U.S. population was 281,421,906
  • There are 50 stars on the U.S. flag while George W Bush is in office

America’s presidents have represented many states, held different occupations and faced many difficult challenges. However, each president answered the same call–the call to serve the American people. As you teach the children in your care about the presidents, encourage them to think about ways that they can serve each other today.
